The Single ZES

The Single Special Economic Zone (Single ZES) for Southern Italy was established on 1 January 2024 by Decree-Law No. 124 of 19 September 2023, converted into Law No. 162 of 13 November 2023 (Official Gazette No. 268 of 16 November 2023).
It covers the territories of the Regions of Abruzzo, Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Molise, Apulia, Sicily and Sardinia and, following Law No. 171 of 18 November 2025, also includes Marche and Umbria.

The Special Economic Zone is defined by law as a delimited area of the national territory in which the pursuit of economic and entrepreneurial activities—by both companies already operating in the relevant areas and those that establish themselves there—may benefit from special conditions with regard to investment and business development activities.

The Single ZES for Southern Italy aims to provide an integrated and coherent approach to supporting economic development and growth in the regions concerned through administrative simplification (Single Authorisation) and investment incentives.
