Meeting of the Steering Committee of the Single SEZ of Southern Italy
On 23 December 2024, the Steering Committee of the Single Special Economic Zone (SEZ) of Southern Italy convened at Palazzo Chigi, chaired by the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni.
The Prime Minister called the meeting following the decision to retain the delegation for Southern Italy within the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. The aim was to coordinate all government actions for the revitalisation of the South, starting with the single SEZ, which serves as a strategic framework for implementing reforms and investments to promote the development of southern regions.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister, along with Ministers, Presidents of Southern Regions, ANCI (National Association of Italian Municipalities), and UPI (Union of Italian Provinces), reviewed the achievements of this initiative, strongly supported by the government to strengthen the productive fabric of the South. The single SEZ includes two significant instruments: the simplified single authorisation regime and the investment tax credit.
The data demonstrate its effectiveness: since 1 January 2024, the establishment date of the SEZ, 415 single authorisations have been issued, amounting to approximately 2.4 billion euros in investments. This surpasses, in just 11 months, the total investments of the previous eight SEZ, which amounted to 1.9 billion euros, with an estimated employment impact of about 8,000 jobs. With the single SEZ, the average time for issuing authorisations has been reduced to around thirty days.
The tax credit has been equally successful, granting a total of 2.5 billion euros and ensuring 100% of the requested credit.
